At Pumpkinfest last year, I had the most interesting day at our booth. Four different people stopped by asking about Tattoo Luv, and each one needed to hear about it in a completely different way.

First person: A heavily tattooed guy in his 30s, sleeves on both arms, asking detailed questions about ingredients

“Is Handmade Soap Really That Different?”

When I tell people I make soap by hand in our Enola, PA home, I usually get one of two reactions:

Reaction 1: “Oh, that’s nice! Smells good!” walks away

Reaction 2: “Wait, is there actually a difference between handmade and what I buy at the store?”

The honest answer: YES. Big difference. But not always in the ways you’d expect.

“How Many Bars Can You Make in a Week?”

Someone at Pumpkinfest last year asked me: “How many bars of soap can you make in a week?”

I thought for a second. “Depends on the week, but maybe… 100-150 bars?”

She looked surprised. “That’s it? There are companies that make MILLIONS of bars!”

“Yep,” I said. “But those aren’t made the way we make ours.”

“What do you mean?”

The Most Common Question We Hear at Craft Shows

If I had a dollar for every time someone picked up a lotion bar at our booth and asked, “What’s a lotion bar?” - well, I’d have a lot of dollars.

People ask us this question quite often. And honestly? I love it. Because it means they’re curious. They’re holding something in their hand that looks different from drugstore lotion, and they want to understand it.

“Is That… Soap?”

Hey friends! Stacie here. You know what question I hear at literally EVERY craft show?

Customer picks up a lotion bar, smells it, looks confused

“Wait… what IS this? Is it soap?”

Me: “It’s a lotion bar!”

“A lotion… BAR? Like solid lotion?”

Me: “Exactly!”

“So… how do you use it?”

And that’s when I know we’re about to have a great conversation.

Lotion bars are one of those products that confuse people at first glance - they look like soap, they’re solid like soap, but they’re definitely NOT soap. And once people understand what they are and how to use them, they become obsessed.

The Label That Made Me Do a Double-Take

Hey friends! Stacie here. A few years ago, I was at the grocery store picking up some basics, and I found myself in the soap aisle. (Once you start making soap for a living, you can’t help but read every soap label you see - it’s an occupational hazard!)

I picked up one of those famous brand-name “beauty bars” - you know the ones, they’re in every store, every commercial, they’ve been around forever.

“Which Soap Should I Use?” - The Question We Get at Every Craft Show

Hey friends! Stacie here (Momma Bear). You know what question we hear most at craft shows and at our Carlisle Creative Vibes booth?

“Which soap is best for my skin type?”

Usually followed by: “I have dry skin… I think? Or maybe sensitive? Actually, my T-zone gets oily but my cheeks are dry. What do I even have?!”
